Re: Distribution group tracking external contacts.

Hi Charles,

In regard to the issue, since a DG(Distribution Group) is not a real mailbox, we’re not able to login in the mailbox and check the delivery report directly. However we can use an internal mailbox to send out a mail to the DG, and we can check the delivery report in the internal mailbox. For details, please try the steps below:

  1. Login in OWA(Outlook Web App) using the internal mailbox alias, send an email to the DG.
  2. Navigate to the “Sent Items” folder, find the mail item you just sent out, click the drop down arrow in front of the item, then right click on the item and click “Open Delivery Report”.
  3. If the browser is preventing the page from opening, please allow it and try the step2 again.
  4. Then you can then see the message delivery status for each recipient in the DG. Please note since the external contact is outside of your mail system, we can only check if the message is delivered to the other mail system or not.
  5. You can also use the Delivery Reports Tab to Get Delivery Information About Messages in ECP(exchange Control Panel).
