Re: Create DNS records when Office 365 doesn't host your DNS

Hi Torgeb,

Under this situation, I suggest you delete the domain and re-add it again with PowerShell, if there is no important service associated with this domain in Office 365.

You can follow the steps below:
1. Make sure you have installed Microsoft Online Services Module for Windows PowerShell.  Please refer to this article for more information: Use Windows Powershell to manage Office 365.
2. Open Windows PowerShell by opening the link on your desktop "Microsoft Online Services Module for Windows PowerShell".
3. Load the module for Microsoft Online Services into PowerShell by typing "import-module MSOnline".
4. Connect to your Office 365 Service by typing "connect-msolservice" in the command module and press ‘Enter’.
5. Submit your administrator login details for your Office 365 account into the dialog box that appears. These are the same details you use to login as an administrator on the Office 365 portal in your browser.
6. Delete the domain by using "Remove-MsolDomain" cmdlet, like so: Remove-MsolDomain -DomainName xxx.com
7. Add the domain to your account by using the "New-MsolDomain" cmdlet, like so: New-MsolDomain -Name xxx.com
8. Get the TXT record to verify, like so: Get-MsolDomainVerificationDns -DomainName xxx.com -mode DnsTxtRecord
9. Add the TXT record (you got it from step 8) to your domain, and then verify the domain by using Confirm-MsolDomain -DomainName yourdomainname.com
10. Close Windows PowerShell, and then check it again in the Office 365 Portal.

Thanks,
Edward Qu

Thank you, David.

Hi KEvans,

Thanks for your effort and sharing your experience to us.

I would like explain some key points that we need to take care.
1. The URL of the library is permanent since the library was created, it will not be changed even if the name of library be changed.
2. According to the service description of Office 365 Plan P1, the SharePoint Designer is unsupported for P Plan, so we are not suggest using the SharePoint Designer for edit the site in P Plan.

Hi

Just been using powershell to try and bulk upload contacts to GAL in 365. Have found some useful threads within the forums and have been using recommended powershell commands. I have my csv file created and in the right place, but when i run the command to create the contacts i get an error that powershell doesn't recognise the cmdlet: see below. I am logged into powershell as administrator.

using command:

Import-Csv .\contacts1.csv|%{New-MailContact -Name $_.Name -ExternalEmailAddress $_.ExternalEmailAddress}

I get error:

The term 'New-MailContact' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operabl
e program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct a
nd try again.

it repeats the error for each line in my csv file

Any ideas?

Hi En-Tie,

I am glad to hear it works smoothly with “Open with Explorer” mode.

If you have further concerns for troubleshot the issue, I would like to confirm that how did you upload the document when encountering the error? Such as Save as from Office 2010 or Upload files directly on online site?

I tried to upload through different ways on my environment and they seemed working fine. It will be nice if you can provide the detailed steps that you have done and post the screenshot of the error message here for further troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Re: how to know my exchange server in office 365

Hi Khalid,

About how to find the server name, you can refer to the following steps:
1. Sign in to your account using Outlook Web App (OWA).
2. On the Outlook Web App toolbar, click Help>About.
2. On the About page, under the External POP Settings line, use the Server name value to help you determine your server name:
(1). If the External POP Settings > Server name value includes your organization’s name, for example, pop.contoso.com, then your server name is the same as your Outlook Web App server name, without the /owa. For example, if the address you use to access Outlook Web App is https://mail.contoso.com/owa, your Exchange ActiveSync server name is mail.contoso.com.
(2). If the External POP Settings > Server name value is in the format podxxxxx.outlook.com, your Exchange ActiveSync server name is m.outlook.com. In some cases, Android mobile devices may experience connection problems using m.outlook.com as the server name. If you are having problems connecting, go to the Host name line on the About page. Use the value shown under Host name for the Exchange ActiveSync server name for your device.

I think I got it!

I deleted my not primary account. Then followed the steps you gave me to add the proxy email. I sent myself test email from hotmail account and it came back with error. I went back to settings, and from drop down selected my website extension. Before that there was @clearviewglass. blah blah blah... So I changed that, and it now works!

Thanks for your help.

Hi Smitha,

I found a link onlinehelp.microsoft.com/.../hh125002.aspx which specifies this:

Set-MsolDomainAuthentication

The Set-MsolDomainAuthentication cmdlet is used to change the domain authentication between standard identity and single sign-on. This cmdlet will only update the settings in Office 365; typically the Convert-MsolDomainToStandard or Convert-MsolDomainToFederated should be used instead.

So please try to use Cmdlet Convert-MsolDomainTodederated.

Thanks,

Hi Gary,

If in Exchange on premise environment, you can set Catch-all Mailbox which is received messages sent to email addresses in a domain that do not exist. Exchange Online anti-spam filters use recipient filtering to reject messages sent to mailboxes that don't exist, and catch-all mailboxes are not supported in Exchange online currently.

Email send messages failing

$

I have a web client that sends support emails via Office 365.  I have started to get failed send messages with the following

System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Service not available, closing transmission channel. The server response was: 4.3.2 Service not available

My Office 365 portal does not show any connectivity issues.  The web client sends approximately 15 emails concurrently and around 40% are failing.  How do I diagnose Office 365 for what may be causing this?

Re: Lync 2010 client does not work with Windows 8

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your updates.

In regard to the issue, my understanding is when you installed the 64 bit version of Lync 2010 in Windows 8 64 bit, you encounter the “Client not supported” issue, please correct me if I’ve misunderstood it.

To solve the issue, please try the steps below:

  1. Can you install the other client software(not Windows8 App) in your PC? Like Office?
  2. Is your PC joined in a Domain? If so, this could be caused by that the domain admin has made policies preventing users from installing software. You can try to exit the domain and try again.
  3. What’s the version of your Windows 8? Is it Windows 8 Home, Windows 8 Pro or Windows 8 Enterprise? What’s the region you’ve set for your PC? If your region or language is set to English, you can try to set it to English and install again.
  4. Since your Windows 8 is a 64-bit version, please note that you’ll need to download a 64-bit version instead of 32-bit(which may cause the “client not supported” issue).
  5. If you want to try Lync 2013, you can sign up a trial account in Office.com and download an Office copy(which will have Lync inside)

If the error still persisted, please help to capture a screenshot of the error message and post it for further troubleshooting. Please feel free to post your updates here at your convenient time.

thanks for the fast reply kent.

attached is a screenshot of the error message. i have followed every instruction to the letter (as i have successfully set up outlook 2010 to sync on one computer already using the following instructions.....

Method 3: Manually set up Outlook

Note This method is not a permanent solution because the location of your mailbox may change. Exchange Autodiscover is the supported permanent solution. If you use these steps and your mailbox server location is changed, you'll have to repeat these steps.

Manually set up Outlook to connect to Exchange Online in Office 365. To do this, follow these steps:

Determine the mailbox server name and the proxy server URL. To do this, follow these steps:

Sign in to the Office 365 portal (portal.microsoftonline.com).

Click Outlook to open Microsoft Outlook Web App.

In the upper-right corner of the page, click the Help icon (the question mark), and then click About.

On the About page, note the Host address.

Manually set up Outlook to connect to Exchange Online. To do this, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Mail.

Click Show Profiles and then click Add.

Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.

Click to select the Manually configure server settings or additional server types check box, and then click Next.

Click Microsoft Exchange, and then click Next.

In the Server box, type the host address that you noted in step 1D. * I typed CT45******.mailbox.outlook.com

Note This name should be the first 10 characters of the host address together with "mailbox.outlook.com" (without the quotation marks). For example, if the host address is "SN2PRD0502.outlook.com/owa," use "SN2PRD0502” together with ".mailbox.outlook.com". In this example, enter "SN2PRD0502.mailbox.outlook.com" (without the quotation marks).

Make sure that the Use Cached Exchange Mode option is selected.

In the User Name box, type your user name (for example, alias@contoso.com), and then click More Settings.

Click the Connection tab.

Make sure that the Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP check box is selected, and then click Exchange Proxy Settings.

In the Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange box, type the host address that you noted in step 1D. I typed CT45******.outlook.com

Note Enter the host address without the "/owa". For example, if the host address is "SN2PRD0502.outlook.com/owa", enter "SN2PRD0502.outlook.com" (without the quotation marks).

Make sure that the Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate check box is selected, and then type msstd:outlook.com.  i typed   msstd:outlook.com

Click to select the On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP check box, and then click to select the On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP check box.

Under Proxy authentication settings, click Basic Authentication.

Click OK two times.

Click Check Names. When the server name and the user name are displayed with an underline, click Next.

Click Finish.

thanks

Red errors after "Import-PSSession $Session".

I'm just wondering why in the heck this is so messed up?  Why on earth does Microsoft create something like this for a simple alias?  WHY???

At any rate, I'll throw a couple of names to "support" and see if they will create the names for me.  I've already spent well over an hour on this issue today and an hour yesterday.  Two hours of my time gone down the drain.

If support can't/won't do it, I'll stick with google.
