Re: Office365 integration and SBS 2011e error log question (ALERT)

Hi Aimee,

I believe you do not clearly understand the issue, which I am bothered by as well. It appears to be by-design and is frustrating to those of us using SBS 2011 and the Office 365 Add-In with subcription Plan P1.

Windows Small Business Server 2011 with the Office 365 Add-In, will create a "Critical" alert if your Office 365 subscription is set to expire soon. However, because the Office 365 Plan P1 subscription is on a month-to-month basis, it is ALWAYS going to expire soon (within 30 days).

The result is that we have a constant "Critical" alert from our SBS 2011.

If you delete the alert, it just reappears after a short time.  If you click to "ignore" the alert, it stays in the ignored state for a short time but then gets replaced with a new one which you must "ignore" again.

While these solutions provide a temporary fix, I believe we would all like to see the alert function differently. In its current format you have a bit of a "boy who cried wolf" situation where you begin to accept that SBS 2011 "critical" alerts are common and do not really mean anything.

Is there some way to alter the alert functionality through a registry change or something like that?

In my opinion, the alert functionality of the Office 365 Add-In for SBS 2011 should be changed to work in one of the following ways for people on month-to-month Office 365 subscriptions:

1. Either the alert should ONLY occur if there is a credit card error (expired, declined, etc.).

2. Or, if the alert is still going to happen each month no matter what, it should be "Informational" not "Critical"... a reminder of the month-to-month nature of the subscription and a reminder to make sure the credit card information is always up to date... not a "critical" warning of an error.

3. Or even better, give us the choice though the UI of controlling whether or not we get this alert and what its severity is.

Unable to restore user

I deleted a user today and would like to restore the user.  I am getting the following error when attempting to restore.  Service overview/health indicates that there is no current maintance or issues with Office 365.  Any thoughts on how to restore this user?

Thanks,

Sandy

Did you change the site address to your own domain in admin>>domains (P) or  admin>>manage site collections(E)?

The only verification option available to Office Live Small Business was the meta tag one and it had to be encoded just as it does with O365. In O365 you can use the easier html file method because you can upload to the site root.  You'll find some tips on adding files in this article.

My site is hosted by Microsoft but I want to use my own domain name which is registered at godaddy.  I have verified it with Microsoft and for the life of me I do not know what to do at this point.  How do I get my site to point to the site I have built on Microsoft?  It was working great before the new Microsoft 365 site was required. Thanks

Thanks for the clarification.  I cannot tell you how much time I've spent on the phone w/ MS on this.  They completely fail to understand what I'm saying, continually ask me what URL i'm seeing the error on and to flush my browser cache, etc.  I then politely advise them this ISN'T a portal generated error for the 4th time.  Then they ask me where I got the add-in and who makes it!!!  After I finally get them to believe MS makes the add-in I'm using they ask me for the URL in which I downloaded it from!!  Then they promptly tell me it isn't their department and say I could pay for support!  Unbelievable.  I've given up w/ these people at this point.

Changed email accounts and proxies

Hi

Our business has added a new domain and some of our users will need to move onto this domain.  However as some people will still email their old domain, I need to have any inbound email redirecting to them.  So, mrX@company1.com is changing to MrX@company2.com.  he will log in as MrX@company2.com but i still want him to get any emails sent to MrX@company1.com

I thought i had it sorted, by renaming th user, then adding the old address as a proxy.  However, while that works if i send an email from another user within our account, if i do it from an external email address it bounces back.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

Is it also possible to cover the situatio where someone types a name to an email address incorrectly? I.e. Can I as the adminsitrtaor get any emails where the domain is correct but the user is incorrect?

Hi nwbergman,

Thanks for your post.

I’d like to confirm what do you mean by saying “new and improved” microsoft365 platform? Do you refer to Office 365 Small Business Preview?
If so, if you find your rebuilt website isn’t available, we recommend you to check if your website is set offline: log in to your Office 365 Preview portal, and click Sites > Public Website, then in the top header, you can know whether your website is offline.

If the site is offline, it means it hasn’t been allowed to show online. Click WEBSITE OFFLINE > MAKE WEBSITE ONLINE > Continue > Make Online, then the site can be reached by public.

Thanks,
Ella Huang

Thanks so much. The initial problem was because somewhere I got the bright idea of plugging google analytics in the root.master. DUH. I worked it out in about 30 minutes and 2 Mountain Dews after posting my help plea.

The generator is the stuff. In progress now. I do have the same issues with the More Gadgets button discussed in community.office365.com/.../225326.aspx  but patience will prevail. Lots of code, so little time : )

Now if Firefox would resolve their flash issue and this stops Chrome from freezing on page load at www.jeffpenley.com/.../Home.aspx I will not be stressing nearly as much. (One day at a time and like water off a duck's back)

Thanks again,

Jeff Penley

Hi Modern,

In some cases, Android mobile devices may experience connection problems using m.outlook.com as the server name. If you are having problems connecting, go to the Host name line on the About page. Use the value shown under Host name for the Exchange ActiveSync server name for your device.

And you can refer Alan's reply to troubleshoot this problem.

@Alan, thanks for your valuable advice.

Thanks,

Hi sknorth,

Once the external user accept the sharing site invitation and enter with an account, the external user will be automatically added to the Visitors group of your team site.

If you would like to grant editing permission to this customer, you can change this group’s permission.
To set unique permissions, you need first stop inheriting permissions from the parent. When permissions are no longer inherited, you can remove any of the old permissions and add any new ones.

Here are step-by-step instructions:

1. Log in to the team site with the admin account. Click Library Permissions under Page panel.
2. On the next screen, in the head pane, click Stop Inheriting Permissions, when a warning appears, click OK.
3. Choose Visitors group, then click Edit User Permissions.
4. Then choose the permissions you want these users or groups to have. If you want to make them be able to edit the website, you could grant Contribute permission to this group.
5. Click OK.

Thanks,
Ella Huang

Typically we have found entering the host address was necessary for Samsung Android phones (except for the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S). It seemed like all of the other Android devices worked with m.outlook.com .

Point "at sign" (@) to a host name rather than an IP address

I'm using AWS S3 to host our web site.
I've created a CNAME "www --> www.ask-ziggy.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com" which works fine for http://www.ask-ziggy.com.

However I would also like http://ask-ziggy.com to point to that same location, unfortunately it seems I'm unable to do it:
CNAME "@ --> www.ask-ziggy.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com" gives "You can't use the at sign (@) in a host name."
and an A entry requires an IP address, no host name.

The problem is that I can't count on AWS to keep the IP address resolving to my host name static. It's currently 205.251.242.171 but they are liable to change it at any time.

How do I make sure http://ask-ziggy.com and http://www.ask-ziggy.com ALWAYS point to the same host?

Hi tbertran,

Thanks for your post here.

I checked and found that both www.ask-ziggy.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com and ask-ziggy.com have already been redirected to www.ask-ziggy.com. Do you mean you would like to update DNS records to keep your website with your current hosting provider? If so, an A record is required to point to the IP address for your website:

1. For Host name or Alias, type @
If you encountered with an error message, you could type in the complete domain name www.ask-ziggy.com as replacement.
2. For IP Address, type the IP address where your website is currently hosted, for example: 172.16.140.1
We still recommend you to contact your current hosting provider, and explain that you need your IP address to create an A record to route customers to your website.

Hi vinay,

Thanks for your feedback.

If you purchase Office 365, you’ll be able to integrate Office 365 account to CRM online. Currently, your original data in the tenant connected with your Windows Live account cannot be moved to the Office 365 tenant directly. For the solution to move the data, you need to contact CRM support for help. Their support engineer will be more professional to resolve this issue.

Thanks for your effort and understanding.

I'm sorry - I was in a hurry.

I set the MaxConcurrentRequestsPerCPU to 5000, restarted the IIS, then I set it to 10000 restarted the IIS - same error number. Then I noticed that the default web site was running under ASP .net 1.1 - and I switched it to asp .net 2.0 but I get the same error as before -  Error 1818 CallCancelled.

Hi Reid,

I understand that you are using Office 365 Small Businesses account and you want to use SkyDrive with Office 365 account. However Office 365 doesn’t support this service.
For more questions about SkyDrive, you can post a new question in the SkyDrive forum.
