Re: FTP username & password

Hi Kowhai,

When you said “transferred my domain to office 365”, do you mean that you’ve added your own domain in Office 365?

If this is the case, Office 365 won’t send you info about FTP username and password. Please note that after you’ve added your domain in Office 365, the only change is that the DNS records will be direct to Office 365, so that you can use your own domain with the services in Office 365. FTP, however is more related to a web host instead of a domain.

For more details, please refer to the links below:

For E Plan(Office 365 for Enterprises subscription), please refer to:  Add your domain to Office 365.

For P Plan(Office 365 for Professional and Small Business subscription), please refer to: Add a new domain to Office 365.

Hi Christian,

In regard to the issue, currently it’s not available to automatically migrate mailboxes from a P Plan to an E Plan. You can create a .csv file to import users to Office 365, however a cutover migration is used for migration from on-premises server to Office 365, and it won’t be available when you migrating from an Exchange Online server to another Exchange Online server.

Another workaround here is that you can let your users to manually forward all the mails from old mailboxes to their new mailboxes, but they’ll still need to export the Calendar and Contact items from the old one to the new.

Please feel free to post your updates here at your convenient time.

Re: Changing Domain Name Registrars

The only disruption would be during the time it takes for the new records to propagate. That could take 10 minutes or in some cases a few hours. As for registrars, check out Go Daddy who were offering transfers with remaining time plus an extra year for $8 (in the US). They do all the work - but you have to allow 4-5 days for Melbourne to respond.

Domain Transfer Problems

I've worked this issue for days...days!  I started with Office365 Preview. I went as far as adding a domain. Things "sort of" worked, but I found the "Preview" environment extremely confusing; especially the "apps".  It was never clear what software and/or environment was running. I tried to uninstall "Preview" for days. I finally got it done.  Our startup company decided to proceed and buy a P1 subscription.  I bought the subscription and started the domain transfer process.  The company domain name was unchanged.  Of course now the domain verification fails and I'm completely stalled. I've tried everything I can think of...deleting the domain on the 365 site and readding the domain.  I've changed the DNS TXT record through several iterations. Office 365 domain validation still says it can't find my DNS record for verification.  I've done nslookup queries on several Internet DNS servers - they all show the correct DNS TXT record.  Office365 refuses to validate my domain.  I could just transfer the NS servers to NS1.bdm.onmicrosoft.com and NS2.bdm.onmicrosoft.com, but then I can progress through the Office365 setup progress bucause it can't validate my domain.  I've searched everywhere to no avail.  I know I probably screwed this up somehow, but if it's this difficult to recover from a mistake, I don't know why anyone would want to signup for Office365.  This is absolutely the craziest maze I've encountered in my 30 years of admin.  Does anyone,     ANYONE, have an answer??

Hello Nancy,

I followed your instructions, line by line. Still unable to connect.

See below a series of screenshots.

1. I logged into O365 (clicking Keep Me Signed In along the way).

2. I navigated to the SharePoint directory that I wanted a Mapped Network Drive for.

3. I copied the URL.

4. Right clicked My Computer. And Selected Map Network Drive.

5. Clicked "Connect to a website that you can use to store your documents and pictures"

6. Pasted in the URL from above. Stripping the "Forms/AllItems.aspx" off the end of the URL in the process.

7. Clicked Next. Resulted in the following Dialog Box.

8. Tried again. This time removing the "/" off the end of the URL (just to test if that might work).

9. Same result.

The rest of our office connects fine using the instructions you've outlined. The only difference is that I have installed IE10. The other users in this office are still using IE9 (some even using IE8).

Regards,

Kyle Garrett

If you added the domain to a Preview account, you need to fully remove it. That's only possible if you delete all users by creating an unlicensed admin user and using that to delete any users. Once it's removed try verifying it again in the P1. Agreed, none of this is made clear or intuitive by MSFT. The Preview isn't even in beta so they really should have blocked people adding domains until the service is a bit more stable.

Keep in mind in a few months your P1 account will be "converted" to the same set up as the current Preview.........so you'll be back where you started.

Hi Kyle,

Could you please let me know the Operating System you are using on your computer? Since the IE 10 preview for Win 7 is still being tested, I recommend you to uninstall IE 10 preview to map the network drive successfully.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 10 preview, please refer to the link below:

5 Step Process

hi there

can you please assist me with the following?

I have a domain that I added to one of my clients profiles on the P1 plan.

there are 5 steps that needs to be performed.

I have done all of them, but on the last one "Complete the process" it wants me to update the Name Servers...

we don't want to do this as it is not allowed by the current hosting company.

what we normally do is just update the DNS at the current hosting company and has always worked like that? it is also already set to point to Office 365...

so now when I press "Done, go check" it wont go through....

this means I'm stuck and cant finish of the domain settings and I need to add another domain to the clients profile, but it wont allow me till this one is completed.

please help....

Hi Allen!

Strange, but now I am back with the original problem:

Trying to open pdf files by clicking them when using IE gives the error message "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect". I have to download the file and then open it. With Firefox there are no problems, just as previouslu

Any idea what might have happened since everything worked fine for a week.

Kind regards,

Sanna K

Hi Kents,

In regard to your description, I understand that you encountered an error when verifying the custom domain.

The custom domain can only exist in one location in Microsoft online Services. If you previously verified the domain in another hosted service, please contact your custom domain register and remove the domain from its current location.

Thanks,
Kevin Cui

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your Private Message.

As I understand it, you have added the .com domain and verified it in Office 365. Now you want to redirect .co.uk address to .com address. Please correct me on time if I misunderstand the issue.

I have checked the website address, the .com address and www.domain.com work fine. Meanwhile, I noticed that the Name Server points to Office 365, if so, Office 365 only supports one public-facing website, so the redirect (from .co.uk to .com) is not available in Office 365 if you point the Name Server to Office 365. Thanks for your understanding.

However, to achieve your requirement, as a workaround, please remove the Office 365 Name Server records from your domain registrar, and then add the Office 365 service required DNS records to your domain registrar manually. After that, you may rewrite the URL, such as using URL forwarding to achieve the URL redirect (from .co.uk to .com).

Please refer to the link below to add or modify custom DNS records for your domain. The required DNS records are listed under the DNS manager tab.

Thanks,
Eric Sun

Hi Torgeb,

From the information provided, the custom domain added to Office 365 is a subdomain, instead of top-level domain. Moreover, using subdomain with an Office 365 for Small Business (Plan P1) account is not supported currently.
Please add a top-level domain, such as domain.no, to the Office 365 Plan P1 account to use the custom domain with Office 365 services.

Thanks,
Claud

Hi Steven,

From your post, I understand you would like to know whether you can skip “point Name Servers” process so that you can add a new domain to work with Office 365 service.

In terms of you cannot press” Done, go check”, it is suggested that you skip “Change name servers” step, press Cancel directly. You needn’t be worry about the process has not been complete. You will continue to add the domain whenever you access the Admin page.

In addition, this online site provides many helpful guides for setting up Office 365. If you have any questions when using Office 365, it’s always our pleasure to be of assistance.
