Verification of .mt domains for use in Office 365

$

I had the unfortunate task of trying to get my .mt domain name validated to be able to use Office365. As many .mt domain name users will know there is only one principal domain name provider in the Island of Malta and that is nic.org.mt.

Unfortunately unlike many domain registrars they do not provide an advanced control panel in order for you to add the MX or TXT record required by Microsoft to validate the ownership of your domain.

So the only way around this is to find another domain registrar that will actually accept a .mt domain name transfer. In my case I found many, all charging exorbitant prices to transfer the domain name over. The one I settled for was www.netim.com which at the time of writing accepted free transfers of .mt domain names and an advanced control panel in order for you to add the respective MX or TXT record.

Once the transfer was complete, the whole set up and verification process took at most a couple of hours to complete.

Still no joy; I beyond me how MSFT plans on selling this service with the problems encountered.  This is nuts!  I created an unlicensed Admin account - note my username here has changed cuz of the user deletion.   I deleted all users in the NEWCOMP.COM domain.  I changed the default domain to NEWCOMPCOM.ONMICROSOFT.COM.  I attempted to delete NEWCOMP.COM from the Office365 environment. I STILL responds with words to the effect, "can't delete cuz of email or Lync....etc.etc.etc"; except now IE 9 crashes and restarts.  I only other recourse in mind is to add another domain (NEWCOMP2.COM) to Office365 and then attempt to delele NEWCOMP.COM; then add and verify NEWCOMP.COM.  I would go with Google's business services but for a number of hazy reasons, I can't for now.  BTW, all the dns services for both domains reside happly at GoDaddy.

I sincerely appreciate your input mchv2.0, but if I paid for P1 I don't consider it "beta".  I guess my age is showing. Another question.  When I paid for the single user P1 account, I was directed to a completely different web page design set which by the way leads to some confusion regarding just where in the "sign-up" process the user resides.  I'm still PO's about the lack of clarity in the "Preview" edition.  One doesn't know what they are d/l are paying/not paying for.  The cloud service idea is OK and quite obviously the way-of-the-future, especially for start-up small companies.  But this is ridiculous.  I've been on this for at least 12 hours, and that's a conservative estimate.

Anyway, thanks for your interest and response.  If you have any other suggestions i'm willing to try just about anything reasonable at this point. Perhaps I just need to buy the "plan" that offers telephone support, but I'm so angry right now I'm ready to throw MSFT in the waste bin.

Please Jerry, not to be rude but you are parroting back the help screens.  I've already attempted your course of action more than once, and it doesn't work.  It a neverending spiral of failure.

Thanks Kevin,

Per the original note, the problem that I don't know which of the Microsoft online services has a record of this custom domain.  All of the email and web services for this domain is currently hosted elsewhere - so the service in question is orphaned and not being used.

Who do I talk to in order to identify and cancel this previously provisioned and orphaned service?

lohpit,

"if I paid for P1 I don't consider it "beta".".

I didn't say P1 was in beta, I said the Preview is not in beta yet - and meant MSFT should be discouraging people from adding domains and so on to a Preview service. They're already aware of how many problems the poorly thought out domain process has caused in production P and E accounts, so allowing domain additions to a Preview product that's only intended for giving an idea of how the new product will look is foolhardy.

In general, though I'm sure well intentioned, this Preview release has added another layer of confusion to what is already an ill defined and highly unintuitive service.

As for domains, deleting ALL users is what has worked for me to remove a domain. I've also read domains can get tied up in FOPE which requires a call to support to get released. MSFT should be giving you the contact details.  Or if you search the forums you should find several threads about it.

Hello

I just made me an officer 365 account that I want all mail onto.
I've got my domain confirmed and the last thing I need to do is make DNS Edit functions.

But is there a way I can put all my User mail up in outlook before I make DNS to be sure of all accounts work as they should.
By typing the server address to which the Exchange server is on the lead when DNS is changed,

so i dont have to runn like a fast cart to all the mail i one day.

ware do i finde the server adress if it is possible

Hi Michael,

From your description, it seems that you want to know how to connect your Outlook to Office365?

Before connect Outlook to Office365, we suggest you install Desktop setup at first: https://portal.microsoftonline.com/download/default.aspx , it will automatically configure your Office desktop apps to work with Microsoft Office 365.

Secondly, according to your Outlook version, refer to the correct link to configure your Outlook, if it failed, please try to manually configure it:
If your Outlook version is 2007 : http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/cc511396.aspx
If your Outlook version is 2010: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/Dd253202.aspx
If your Outlook version is 2003: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/cc835668.aspx
The link below is about manually configure Outlook: http://blogs.technet.com/b/hot/archive/2012/02/06/how-to-manually-configure-outlook-office-365.aspx

Nancy et al,

I've uninstalled Internet Explorer 10 as per these instructions:

I am now successfully able to connect to my 'Mapped Network Drives' again.

Therefore I can say with absolute certainty that IE10 was the source of the problem (in my case).

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi lohplt,

Based on your description, I understand that you can't remove your customer domain.

To troubleshoot this issue, I suggest you do the following steps:

1. Check and remove your customer domain name from your company’s primary domain:

   1) On the Admin page, in the top right corner, click your company name.

   2) Click Edit.

   3) Check the domain under the "Primary verified domain". If the content indicates that the domain is your custom domain, please change the domain name to the Office 365 domain.

2. Make sure you haven’t created any distribution groups with your customer domain name. To do this, in the portal, click Admin, click Exchange, in the recipients panel, click Groups.

For more information, you can refer to Remove a domain.

@Mch thanks for your useful information.

Best regards,

Jerry Cen

Javascript not functioning - Show uniqely secured content

Since recent sharepoint problem of last couple of days the function that allows a list uniquely secured content in a library to be displayed is not working. I.e if you display a library then click the "Library" tab and "Library Permissions" icon, when the message "Show me uniquely secured content" is clicked nothing happens.

This problem is happening on various devices all running IE9 and previously worked on these machines - so is not related to the local PC.

Is this being caused by the upgrade that is still in progress or is this another problem?

Thanks

Chris

Hello Chris,

Actually, there has been a planned SharePoint Online upgrade to Office 365 recently.

You might try creating a new site and a new library to see if it works.

In addition, I would recommend you check the Service Health and Planned maintenance from the Admin page of your Office 365 Portal. See if any related information is available there.

For your reference:
